Book Review : Sapiens : A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari Rating *****

Image
This book is one of the best book I have ever read regarding human development on the earth. We take some things for granted in our life like breeding animals in large numbers for our consumption. But we never think what the animal must be thinking about us. The book is written with this third party angle, where we humans are also considered at par with other animals living on earth since millions of years. The theory is convincing if humans are considered as animals. But if we think we are different from other animals then we will not agree with the author. The book is biased on evolutionary ideas.  Author considers us humans as one of the animals and is not ready to give us the advantage of our intelligence, which is not developed in other animals, as our tool to rule them. Man who believes in god will not agree with the author as his views are atheist. He believes God and Religions are made by man to his own advantage, neglecting other animals purposefully. He do not Differentia

Book Review : The Tandoor Murder by Maxwell Pereira Rating ****

Image
I saw this incident on TV in 1995. The television had entered cable TV era from age old Doordarshan and a dozen or so news channels catering to viewers ever hungry for hot news. The tandoor murder fed them well. Author have complete knowledge of the incident since he was himself a top cop involved directly in the case. The book is a thorough account of that infamous murder popularized by cable TV news era. The real story is quite small and straight forward caused the author a lot of pain to convert it into a commercial book. This causes the book to be unnecessarily lengthy with unnecessary details. The details of autopsy/postmortem is very dirty to read and unnecessary for a common non technical reader, but author had to do it to fill the book. The case was quite straight forward, that a criminal politician killed his keep and police, judiciary, government spend crores of rupees just to prove it in court of law though they had truckload of evidence with them. What a tragedy a

Book Review : Digital Fortress by Dan Brown Rating ****

Image
Dan brown is my favorite english author. I have read his book deception point in the past. His writing style is very nice and simple. His research of the subject is also good. It is not surprising that his books are among bestsellers in the world. Digital fortress is one his great creations. It is written in 1996 when the whole world was on the edge of digital revolution. We saw growth of computers, internet and mobiles at amazing speed. The book was published just at the right time on right subject. The book is about a super secret american super computer designed to keep watch on the whole world conspiring against america i.e. United States. It is the best computer on the earth with best expertise engaged in working on it. But one rogue worker destroys it all. The author have done good research on technical side of the subject but it is far from accurate. There are many flaws and misconceptions about government secret installations. The list of errors is given below. 1

Book Review : An Era of Darkness : The British Empire in India by Shashi Tharoor (Rating ****)

Image
The book is written explicitly to inform us about the evil effects of British raj on Indian economy and culture. A lot of things written in the book are already known to us as we have studied them in our history textbooks. But Shashi gives us its more in-depth account. He have done nice research on the subject and information is very correct and supported with various references. The story starts with the visit of Europeans in the 15 th century attracted by spice trade with India. When they found that Indian political system is at weakest and it is easy to conquer them and take complete possession of the spice trade to their benefit, they just easily overran the subcontinent and the British raj began. Shashi Tharoor is a congress MP in India and his writing is always have a congress lens when he view any matter of Indian politics and history. He always tries to distance himself from Hindu origin of country and gives Muslims period equal credit for its development in past. He

Book Review : The Ivory Throne by Manu S. Pillai (Rating ****)

This book specifically concentrating on the history of Travancore kingdom, a southern part of Kerala, also gives in-depth information of general history of Kerala, The famous Zamorins, The Vasco Da Gama etc. The story starts from 16 th century when Portuguese first succeeded to reach India. The rulers were rich through trade with Europe since thousands of years, but were fools not to create a good military force to counter aggression by external forces and also divided among small states within states, each fighting with each other to gain control over the region and trade. The great mistake they had done was partnering with European forces like Portuguese, Dutch, French and the British. These foreign forces took advantage of divided India to slowly swallow the whole India under British flag. For 200 years they used India as their source of free raw material and labour force to feed their factories in England. They used some of Indian Rajahs and Princes to help them control Indi
