शिरवळकरांनी १९७४ साली रहस्यकथा लेखनास सुरुवात केली. तेव्हापासून १९७९ सालापर्यंत त्यांनी २५० छोट्या मोठ्या रहस्यकथा लिहिल्या. १९८० सालापासून ते 'सामजिक कादंबरी' या साहित्यप्रकाराकडे वळले.
